App Routing for Links Clicked on Mobile Devices
I would love to see a feature in PlusThis (or perhaps add additional functionality to the existing smart links feature) that performs app routing when someone clicks a link on a mobile device based on whether they have a certain app installed on their mobile device or not.
For example, if I send an email to my list with a link to a Facebook post and they try to click that link on their iPhone, it tries to open that link in their default browser. Unfortunately, many people are not logged into Facebook in their mobile web browser because they're already logged in via the Facebook mobile app.
I would like a smart link that determines whether they're clicking the link from mobile device or not and if that mobile device has the Facebook app installed. If it does, it opens the link in the app and if it does not, it opens the link (or perhaps even an alternate URL) in their default web browser
I've found a service called URL Genius (app.urlgeni.us) that does this for multiple apps (including Facebook, YouTube, Spotify, Messenger, TikTok and many more) but it would be great if this functionality were already built into PlusThis so I could avoid using a separate service.
The two reasons why this would be particularly useful are as follows:
Access. If a video or post is locked away inside a private Facebook group, the user can only access it if they are logged into an account that has joined that group. Because many users are not logged into Facebook on their mobile device's web browser, this makes some content unavailable to them upon clicking the link.
Tracking and Retargeting. If people watch a video inside of the Facebook app while they're already logged in, Facebook tracks this behavior and allows marketers to retarget those users based on that previous behavior.
